Here is one incident that is very etched in brain and it’s also the first that came into my mind when I thought about the tag. My first thought is always weird and into extremes and this is the living proof of it.

Before I start with it, I want to say that I am not excatly proud of this incident at all but it happened in the flow but it still provides a good laugh.

It was somewhere around in eight standard, when my friend and I decided to play a prank on my chemistry teacher. We decided to put a crushed cellotape on the teacher’s chair and when he would sit, it would stick to his back and it would be fun. I know it is wrong but, you don’t really think at that age and everything is fun.

Accidentally, on the same day, there was christmas decoration going on in the class and we got the perfect moment to drop it on the chair without being noticed. My friend and I, started to help the class monitor in decoration around the blackboard and she finding the best moment, dropped it. We gave each other a look and sat at our respective places.

But, the teacher was smarter. He had spotted the tape and he got really angry. He scolded the entire class and assumed, it was done to embarrass him. But, for us, it was harmless fun. He asked the entire class for the name of the person behind it. No one knew it but some super smart girl ratted the class monitor, my friend and I, as we were the last people spotted there; circumstantial evidence; you see.

He called three of us out and was ready to pull us to the principal’s office because of us breaching the discipline. He said looking at us that he didn’t expect such a nonsense from us. Well you see all three of us had a very good image in class. We were sincere and serious students, had a spotless record. No one could ever believe we could do something like that. We were considered calm and composite students and our naughty side, was often not seen or ignored.

He called our class teacher before taking us to the principal’s office. My class teacher couldn’t believe we did that. I cleared the reason for that before. He was so angry that he wanted us to be suspended for a week. Well, what seemed funny before, was now becoming a nightmare. I was expecting to be thrown out of class but suspension was a big deal. I looked at the other two and their heads were bowed down. The class monitor was sobbing hard and my other friend was just bowing her head down, silently crying.

I was the only one with head bowed down but not crying. God knows what confidence I had at that time and though, I was shivering from within, I maintained the outer calmness. My teacher was an angel, she wanted to talk to us before going to principal’s office and since, I was the only one not crying, she asked me.

Now, all my confidence was fading. I felt like all the burden was laid on my shoulder. I had to save all three of us; other two were of no help. So much for not crying! But, my brain got a brilliant idea. Obviously, I was about to lie but, that seemed better than suspension.

I said to her, “Ma’am, we were actually decorating the borders of the board for christmas. We were using the tape to stick small christmas trees and we were carelessly, throwing the discarded tapes, when one of them would have landed on the chair. We didn’t mean to do it purposely. We apologize for it. We didn’t mean any harm.” The other two nodded their head.

She looked contended with my answer. We made the face of the most innocent creatures on earth that time and it helped our case. We were like Gandhi Ji’s three monkeys at that time. She told him or argued with him to let us go and it was an accident and he shouldn’t be taking such huge action for a small mistake.

He reluctantly let us free and we ran away from there, with the speed of light. I guess having good image helped at that time. The other two hugged me tight for saving us but I hit them for not speaking a word there. From that day, I decided, no more pranks especially on the teachers, specifically not in groups. We were lucky this time, God was with us or else we’ll be in deep shit. From that day onwards, no more pranks till I passed my 12th, well not truly, we still pranked our friends but not with teachers. One experience was enough!

I was in trouble for discipline for the first and last time. I still think about it and laugh with the other two and they are still thankful for saving them. It also gives out a message don’t prank teachers and if at all you do, it should be full proof.
